Vegetarians & Carnivores second album, ‘Human Nature’.

Vegetarians & Carnivores second album ‘Human Nature’ launches 25 September 2026 on Bandcamp, before landing on all digital download places in October. ‘Crossing The Road’ will be the album launch single.

Recorded, mixed and co-produced with Nick Moorbath at Oxford’s Evolution Studios, all songs were written by songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Simon Carbery.

About ‘Human Nature’

Where ‘A Day Of Rainbows’ was semi-autobiographical, ‘Human Nature’ is linked by more global themes: it’s about us – human beings – and our relationship with political leaders, technology, our planet … and each other.  

Simon comments: “ I started thinking about this in 2016. Donald Trump had just been elected for the first time. Brexit had just happened. And in the years since, we’ve seen the gap between rich and poor get wider and wider; grifting and power-grabbing become a political staple across the world, and democracy under threat even in the world’s stablest countries. I was struck that although human beings are great communicators and collaborators, we seem unable to do either in a way that’s benefitting mankind. One of our biggest problems is we seem equally unable to control our other great talent - toolmaking.

As tool-makers, we’ve created a global climate that’s going haywire; weapons that could destroy every one of us; and technology that’s threatening human creativity, jobs, and our very existence at the top of Planet Earth’s food-chain. Our toolmaking superpower is also our kryptonite.

Sure, many of ‘Human Nature’s’ themes are warnings. In spite of that, I hope it leaves a positive message. That alongside humanity’s capacity for greed, short-sightedness and stupidity, we’re also blessed with intelligence, kindness and understanding. With an ability to communicate and collaborate. That we can, if we choose, use the best aspects of our ‘human nature’. And show - perhaps not before time - that we really do justify the description ‘Homo Sapiens’.”

‘Human Nature’ is inspired by artists as diverse as The Beatles, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Radiohead, Tears For Fears, Steely Dan, Jeff Buckley, Steven Wilson, Elbow, and music from global and classical traditions.
